Creating a nation of active women

Thursday 24 July 2008

Following It's Time - a report revealing the extent of the crisis in women's physical activity - the Women's Sport & Fitness Foundation (WSFF) commissioned Ipsos MORI to conduct a programme of stakeholder research and consultation to help inform the development of a new strategic framework. On Tuesday 22 July  the WSFF launched this framework: Creating a nation of active women.

The first of its kind, Creating a nation of active women is a strategy for national change set to help tackle the issues surrounding poor levels of physical activity by women. Aimed at policy-makers and providers of sport and fitness, the report outlines a new approach, makes practical recommendations and advocates setting challenging targets.

WSFF Chief Executive, Sue Tibballs said: "We hope that Creating a Nation of Active Women will resonate across the sector and enable sports and activities deliverers to better provide what women want. Ipsos MORI's work to develop and run the extensive consultation was crucial to developing the strategy and obtaining buy-in. After all the hard work, it was gratifying to see high profile figures like Dame Kelly Holmes and Dame Tanni-Grey Thompson attending the launch event and endorsing the work."

Jen Fraser, Head of Sport Research at Ipsos MORI said "we are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with the team at WSFF on such an important project.  It's always rewarding when the research we undertake really does have an impact and in this case has helped the WSFF to inform and shape the development of the framwork for change. We look forward to continuing our support for the work that WSFF does and in contributing to the successful implementation of ‘Creating a nation of active women'".
