Do we make our roads too good?
Ipsos MORI and TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) were commissioned by the Department for Transport (DfT) to examine public expectations of the surfaces of Local Authority roads and footways. The study combined qualitative research with scientific engineering data to better understand road users' perceptions of the surfaces they travel on.
Technical details
Ipsos MORI conducted 12 group discussions and nine in-depth interviews with a range of different road and footway users in three locations — Newcastle (urban), Northampton (suburban) and near Chichester (rural). Research was conducted in May 2006.
