Despite banks’ ongoing pledges to raise business lending, our latest survey of MSPs shows that affordability of credit is perceived to be the most important problem facing Scottish businesses (mentioned by sixty-five percent of Members). The general economic condition, lack of consumer demand and rise in unemployment are also considered to be major challenges facing the business community.
Views on the prospects for the Scottish economy over the next year are fairly divided. Most specifically, thirty-eight percent of MSPs believe that the economy will improve while forty-three percent believe that it will deteriorate.
