Employee Research

This is a period of significant change. All organisations, public and private sector, are addressing the implications of the sharpest downturn in over 50 years and a tightening of public spending under a new administration. Although the Scottish Government provide temporary relief, this will only mean a sharper focus on priorities and efficiency in the following years. There is inevitable concern among staff of all organisations about the implications of these ‘efficiencies’ and potential redundancies.

This is in the context of other major changes. In the public sector, organisations are grappling with the implications of Single Status, the Concordat and Single Outcome Agreements and greater scrutiny of public services. The wider community face the implications of a squeeze on credit, changing attitudes to corporate social responsibility and the environment, tighter legislation and greater tax burdens on the business community.

We are helping organisations to address concerns among staff and engage them in the process of change.

As one of Scotland’s leading providers of employee research (surveying over 40,000 employees in the last year), we offer all forms of research from online and paper staff surveys to qualitative action planning and detailed analytics. We bring 40 years of experience, benchmarking data from over 500 employee surveys conducted by Ipsos MORI, and an understanding of the context in which our clients operate - drawing upon our wider research in sectors such as central and local government, general public attitudes, tourism and leisure, education, crime and policing.

We pride ourselves in delivering research on time, to budget and with a design that allows clients to use findings as a management tool. We understand what is behind employee engagement and can help clients define indicators in line with their strategy, provide them with meaningful analysis and actionable solutions. But we do more. We focus on going beyond data, empowering managers and equipping them with tools and knowledge to build action plans. Our aim is to provide research that will directly inform our clients’ strategic decisions and help them succeed in the long-term. This is what we are passionate about. This is how we help our clients create a mutually engaging relationship with their people.

Glasgow Life Staff Engagement Survey 2011-12
In 2009, Ipsos MORI conducted the first of a series of Staff Engagement Surveys for Glasgow Life (formerly Culture and Sport Glasgow). The main objective of the three-year involvement of Ipsos MORI is “to identify and explore the issues which are important to staff and the impact of these issues on their working life”.

In 2011, we will be conducting a period of qualitative research, followed by the next universal staff survey in 2012. The qualitative phase will involve a series of group discussions with staff and depth interviews with senior managers. The aim of this phase is to identify the issues that are important to staff, which will help to inform the design of the questionnaire for the universal staff survey.

Glasgow City Council Staff Survey 2011-2012
Ipsos MORI Scotland has been commissioned by Glasgow City Council to conduct qualitative and quantitative research among its 23,000 employees in 2011 and 2012. The qualitative phase of the research will involve a series of discussion groups with staff and depth interviews with senior managers. The aim of this phase is to identify issues that are important to staff, which will help to inform the design of the questionnaire for the universal staff survey. We will then conduct a quantitative survey among all Council employees in 2012. Employees will be able to complete the survey via an online or paper self-completion questionnaire.
