Ipsos MORI's October Issues Index shows that the economy remains the most important issue facing the country today. Over half of the public (52%) place it amongst the most important issues facing Britain. This is a similar percentage to the number who cited this issue in June, July and August of this year. As has been the case since September 2008, the economy is the most important issue facing the country today according to the public. Over half (55%) place it amongst the most important issues, a similar percentage to the number who cited this issue last month (54%). Indeed, the economy shows no sign of being knocked off the top spot - the second highest issue (race relations/immigration) is cited as an important issue by only half as many respondents (27%). The economy again tops Ipsos MORI's monthly Issues Index, with just under three fifths of British adults (58%) saying it is one of the most important issues facing Britain, an increase of 3 points from last month. Concern about economy remains high, but just 14% worry about unemployment

The economy has once again risen to the top of Ipsos MORI's Issues Index in September 2008, with over half of British adults (55%) saying it is one of the most important issues facing Britain, an increase of 14 points from last month. This is the highest score we have ever recorded for this issue (our trends date back to 1974). In addition, concern about unemployment is at the highest it has been since November 2001: it is at 11%, an increase of four points from last month. Concern about economy at all time high.

Crime tops latest Issues Index

Crime has risen to the top of Ipsos MORI's Issues Index in August 2008, with almost half of British adults saying it is one of the most important issues facing Britain (47%). This is an increase of eight percentage points since July. Crime tops latest Issues Index
