Engage

Unlocking the secrets of the hi-tech nation

Engage is our syndicated study that helps you understand the impact of new media technologies in the UK. It taps in to the ownership and use of, and attitudes to, technology among British gadget users. Engage can help you know more about:

  • the media technology people use at home
  • their viewing habits
  • the technology they trust, and what they are nervous about
  • what they understand about the pace of change.

Here are a few of the statistics it has uncovered:

  • while 58% of people have internet access at home, just 3% have seen of contributed to a blog
  • although 7% of adults own a high definition TV set, only 3% have subscribed to any high definition channels
  • in the next year over a third of people who own a DAB radio set intend to buy another set, while nearly 40% of mp3 owners will buy another player.

We survey 3,000 people face-to-face every quarter about which forms of technology they use. A further 10,000 users of digital technology form our online panel, which is divided into vision, sound and connect. Vision finds out about how they use TV, HDTV, digital television, interactive TV and PVRs. Sound questions them about digital radio, iPod and mp3s. Connect finds out about other online technology, including mobile phones and connected services, boradband, webfeeds, blogs, etc. We run Engage twice a year,
