Tenants Satisfaction Surveys (STATUS)

If you are a local authority that has 1,000 or more general needs dwellings or have an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) you need to act now. You are required to carry out a survey of your tenants and report on tenant satisfaction to meet the requirements of National Indicator 160, which will form part of the new Comprehensive Area Assessment.

Historically tenants surveys (STATUS) were conducted as part of the wider Best Value Performance Indicator (BVPI) survey on a triennial basis. However, Authorities are now expected to move towards a new Place-Based approach to delivering services and monitoring performance and consequently the STATUS survey for Authorities and ALMOs are also moving in this direction.

How Can Ipsos MORI Help?

Given our development work with the pilot study for the new Place-Based survey (collecting data for many of the new National Indicators, including NI 160), and our considerable experience with the previous rounds of BVPI surveys, Ipsos MORI is ready and fully geared up to carry out a tenants survey on your behalf.

We guarantee to meet all the requirements of the STATUS Survey and ensure that your survey is compliant. Indeed, we think there are key benefits of using a research partner that can provide all the services you require under one roof.

We have the people, the expertise, resources and relevant experience to deliver this research to the very highest standards. We have a strong understanding of how tenants perceive their landlord, and the services provided, and the environment in which they do so. We can offer a range of added value to your survey, from advising on additional questions to include, providing training on how to interpret and analyse the survey data, through to action planning workshops to help you and your staff understand the results and take them forward to drive improvements in your services.

We are now providing quotes for the next round of STATUS Surveys, which needs to be completed between 1 June and 30 November 2008. We would be delighted to be considered in your procurement process, and believe we offer:

  • Unrivalled experience in the practicalities of carrying out STATUS surveys - In the last round of BVPI surveys (2006/07) we were commissioned to undertake more than 200 individual surveys across the country, including STATUS surveys for over 20 local authorities or ALMOs. These were all compliant with STATUS and CLG guidance using a postal survey approach with samples ranging from 1,600 to c13,000;
  • The flexibility to tailor packages for individual commissioning authorities or consortia working together;
  • The ability to use our extensive resources to manage the entire survey process; from printing, scanning, validation of data, and on to reporting, presentation and workshops, entirely in-house;
  • Detailed knowledge of the policy background;
  • A bespoke mapping service, allowing geographical analysis of perceptions data at management area, ward, borough, regional and national levels to allow for comparison, for example, within and across local authority boundaries;
  • Dedicated skills in making best use of the data, including the linking of the findings with other datasets (for example our work on Housing Frontiers 2008, pdf, 348Kb); and
  • A range of options for each survey, from data processing only through to "full service". Guaranteed peace of mind to know that your Authority will be compliant for all stages of the process.
We would be very pleased to discuss your plans and develop tailored proposals for your authority. To request more details on STATUS surveys please use this form or contact one of the Place Survey team.
