Our Experience

Our Participation Unit aims to enable organisations to meaningfully engage people in decision-making. It involves a team of researchers developing and applying techniques that ensure clients and participants get the most out of consultation and engagement exercises.

This paper outlines some of our projects for clients, plus our wider work, including an outline of articles and papers that have been published or are in the pipeline.

1. Client Projects

Below is an overview of some of our recent work. It has been split into four sections:

  • Understanding Engagement: this section outlines our work with several government departments, particularly focussing on how to improve public involvement or engagement.
  • Deliberative Research: examples of deliberative work including groups, workshops and Citizens' Juries.
  • Participative Research: our work with peer interviewers and client immersion.
  • Other Engagement Research: some other work that can be relevant including examples of detailed pre-tasking and open consultation fora.

2. Our Wider Work

The Participation Unit is also involved in a range of activities designed to further our understanding of consultation and engagement approaches.
