Tracking study for Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) exploring public perceptions of safety on the railway in comparison with other modes of transport, with in-home interviews amongst a sample of 1,000 respondents.

Trespass and Vandalism on the Railways for the RSSB. A large-scale self-completion postal survey among front line staff of TOCs, Railtrack, British Transport Police and Railway contractors examining attitudes towards trespassing and vandalism on the railways.

Qualitative study amongst young people investigating attitudes towards 'playing on the railways' and ways of engaging with them to reduce rail trespass and vandalism, including usage of websites and SMS.

Monitoring the Social Impacts of congestion charging. A longitudinal study tracking household respondents across seven neighbourhoods to identify the impact of the congestion charging scheme on household members and their wider community. This involved an extensive questionnaire administered in-home amongst those living within the zone and inner London. A telephone survey was conducted amongst visitors to London who live in outer London and beyond the M25.

Public Attitudes towards Congestion ChargingTransport for London. Large scale quantitative study in London examining attitudes towards the proposed Congestion Charging Scheme and measuring potential changes in behaviour once the scheme is introduced.

Survey of Non-company Owned Vans, DfT. Diary details of journeys made by van drivers on a daily basis with respondents selected across the year to provide aggregate annual profile of van activity. Data has been used to inform transport policies in the wake of increasing number of vans on roads in the last decade.

Foreign Vehicle Survey, DfT. Large scale face-to-face survey amongst drivers of foreign registered HGVs at various ports across the UK. The survey captures information on the vehicles' activity within the UK, paying particular attention to consignment loadings / un-loadings and routes travelled on the UK road network. The findings have been used to estimate the extent of cabotage (haulage undertaken solely within the UK by foreign vehicles).

'The motoring underclass', DVO Group —a qualitative study examining the persistent hardcore of drivers who do not pay their road tax. As well as exploring the reasons for their failure to pay, it also assessed why tax evaders continue to use their untaxed vehicles, examined the characteristics of non-payers and placed non-payment of road tax in the context of evasion of other taxes/bills.

Public Attitudes to Transport Survey on behalf ofCommission for Integrated Transport (CfIT). Series of annual quantitative studies looking at the general public's attitudes towards public transport, including local and long distance rail, in England. The survey covers areas such as the importance of transport as an issue, the cost of public transport, transport usage and travel behaviour, support for Government polices and expectations for the future.

Social Attitude to Road Risk in Europe (SARTRE) Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). A quantitative study among UK drivers to assess their attitudes to various aspects of driving, as part of a pan European study, for the EU steering group.

Fuel survey HM C&E. A survey amongst c.800 UK registered HGVs, identifying their travel patterns outside the UK and their fuel purchasing behaviour relative to these trips.
