Survey of Wales' Assembly Members

Welsh Assembly The views of Assembly Members (AMs) are increasingly important to companies and organisations operating in Wales. AMs gained further law-making powers in 2011 and the profile of the assembly changed following the election last year. It is therefore crucial that organisations operating in Wales have a thorough understanding of how they are perceived by those who sit in power in the Senedd.

Ipsos MORI conducts an annual survey of AMs to provide organisations with detailed and independent insight into the opinions AMs hold about them. Set up in 2007, the survey provides valuable guidance to public and private sector clients, from across a range of sectors including health, leisure, environment, voluntary, transport, energy, pharmaceutical and financial sectors.

The survey consists of around 35 face-to-face interviews (i.e. more than half the AMs who sit in the Senedd), with a representative sample of the four political parties interviewed.

Interviews are conducted face-to-face. Unlike postal or online surveys, we can be certain it is the AMs themselves who answer our questions. It also allows us to probe for in-depth sentiment to help us understand the meaning behind responses. The verbatim comments complement and add depth to the quantitative survey data.

It is a syndicated multi-client survey. Set-up costs are shared between the clients making it an affordable method of collecting high quality and reliable data on the opinions of AMs.

Questionnaire and costs:

We are absolutely flexible about the questions that you ask on the survey. You may purchase the core pack of questions or you may ask tailored made questions (or a combination of the two).

The core package of questions costs £7,000. Included in the core park are the following:

  • Familiarity, favourability and advocacy of your organisation
  • Familiarity, favourability and advocacy of three comparator organisations of your choice
  • Open ended question asking why do AMs speak highly or critically about your organisation
  • Seven image ratings asking AMs to rate your organisation on different attributes
  • The same seven image ratings about a key nominated comparator to allow you to compare your performance against a key competitor
  • A wide range of background questions

Costs of asking tailored questions, either in addition or instead of the core pack, are as follows

  • Standard pre-coded question = £800 each
  • Open-ended question = £1,200 each

Again, we are completely flexible about the questions that you wish to ask on the survey. Please feel free to contact us and we would be more than happy to help you design questions that best suit your needs.

(All costs exclude VAT).
