International Social Research
We conduct global research on the basis of local knowledge, working closely with our Ipsos global network which spans more than 60 countries worldwide. Experience tells us that the successful delivery of international social research projects depends upon a sound appreciation of context – from social habits and cultural conventions through to in-country policies and legislation. It also depends on high standards of project management, coordination and control. Our clients benefit from the advantage of a worldwide network of Ipsos partners, which helps both to minimise risk and ensure that our international research benefits from local knowledge and insight throughout.
Our clients for international social research and evaluation work include Accenture, European Commission DGs, the British Council and the BBC World Service. Ipsos as a whole has an established track record of success in delivering large, multi-country studies for a great many clients, from European and international institutions through to interest groups and national and international NGOs.
Global Cities Forums for the Accenture Institute for Public Service Value (2007-present)
The overarching aim of the Global Cities Forums research is to explore citizens’ expectations of the role of government and public services in improving social outcomes. The study uses a deliberative method of one-day participatory workshop events, each with 60-70 participants, in cities around the world. To our knowledge, the GCF study was the first time deliberative methods were trialled internationally in this way.
Since 2007, Global Cities Forums have been held in 17 cities worldwide. Most recently, the study has been extended to the developing world, with Forums held in Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City and New Delhi. Each event focuses on gaining an understanding of citizens’ expectations of government and what citizens want for an improved quality of life in their city. The deliberations employ a range of participatory research methods and tools including the use of case studies, role play, and real-time electronic voting.
