Prisons and Offender Management

Our research work with adult and young offenders, as well as with prison staff, illuminates what works with respect to issues such as interventions, re-offending, prisoner transfer schemes and employee relationship management.

Our researchers and field force have the experience and track record to deliver robust response rates amongst hard-to-reach groups on complex quantitative studies.  We have also conducted a number of qualitative studies with prisoners, including studies with foreign national prisoners to provide evidence and suggest enhancements to government transfer schemes.

Case Study: Surveying Prisoner Crime Reduction

We manage the largest survey of prisoners ever undertaken in Britain, 'Surveying Prisoner Crime Reduction' (SPCR) on behalf of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). This cohort study of 4,000 prisoners provides evidence for 'what works and for whom' with respect to the Government's re-offending prison policy.  Results have been published by the MOJ in their report 'The problems and needs of newly sentenced prisoners: results from a national survey' (PDF, 1MB).
