Understanding Environment Newsletter - July 2009
The latest Understanding Environment newsletter is set against a backdrop of the worldwide economic crisis and at a time when fewer than one in ten people consider the environment as a major issue facing Britain today.
In this newsletter, we look at the global patterns of tension between the environment and the economy, at the implications of the financial crisis for government policy to promote a sustainable Britain, and at the fact that we are still concerned about everyday environment issues such as packaging and access to green spaces.
Finally, the environment team are delighted to announce we'll be working in partnership with the Met Office on a new survey which will examine public attitudes to climate change. The survey will update many of the trends included in our previous Tipping Point or Turning Point report, as well as give further insight into the public's acceptance of the science and perceptions of the likely impacts of climate change. Fieldwork will be taking place in August 2009, with results published in September 2009. We'll be providing more details in future bulletins.
