About the Ipsos MORI Local Government Research Team

Our clients benefit from the superior understanding and appreciation of local area working we have gained thanks to our work across a number of other Ipsos MORI research areas including Regeneration, Race, Faith and Cohesion, Transport, Crime & Justice, Environment and Health.

We create a tailored solution for each project whilst delivering excellent value for money. As well as providing a full research service, we provide objective, user-friendly research advice and consultancy. The issues we can help you with include:

  • finding out what your residents, staff and other stakeholders think - including harder to reach members of your community
  • identifying issues and priorities in the local area
  • maximising performance and driving improvement
  • improving your reputation and targeting your communications
  • developing e-Government and e-democracy
  • promoting engagement and empowerment in your local community and supporting you in fulfilling your duty to involve

We are well known for using a range of tried and tested techniques – including postal, online, telephone and face-to-face surveys, citizens' panels and focus groups. However, we also deliver - with the help of our Qualitative Hothouse and Participation Unit - innovative participatory research. These include visioning or deliberative events, ethnography, and participatory budgeting.

We have an unrivalled experience of working on the Place Survey, having been heavily involved in the development of the questionnaire.  In 2008, we conducted over 120 Place Surveys for English local authorities, including all 33 of the London Boroughs.

Ipsos MORI is also at the forefront of discussion and debate on the latest policy developments relating to local government. In addition, we conduct high profile research and analysis for regional and central government and other NGOs such as the Audit Commission.  Through our wider thought leadership work (including Frontiers of Performance), we bring demonstrable additional value to our clients.
