Scottish Government publishes Ipsos MORI evaluation of Free School Meals Trial
Ipsos MORI Scotland has recently completed the evaluation of the free school meal trial for P1-P3 pupils in Scotland. The trial was part of the Scottish Government’s drive to improve the nation’s health and encourage good eating habits from a young age and ran from October 2007 to June 2008 in five local authorities in Scotland. The aim of the research was to assess process and practical issues relating to the implementation of free school meals, together with any early indications of benefits, across a variety of different locations, to inform national roll-out.The final report has recently been published and can be accessed at www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2008/08/29113958/0 .

A new way of working with Ipsos MORI Scotland
Ipsos MORI Scotland has established 'Delivery', a new specialism lead by Mark Diffley, to review clients' business processes and analyse how this matches performance measures. Mark joins us from Audit Scotland where has been Education Portfolio Manager, having spent several years leading performance audit studies in health (studies on bed-blocking and long-term conditions), education (on the teachers' agreement and school buildings), in Justice (on youth justice), and the environment (study on waste management).

Clients are under pressure to deliver more, to work in new ways and with other organisations to deliver greater efficiency. But through all this they need to remain true to their core values and public service objectives. How can organisations do this when managers and front-line staff are constantly embattled by day to day issues? We will act as 'critical friends' with our clients, making recommendations for change to senior managers, and, importantly, reviewing progress over time.
Your challenges will be varied, but our objective is constant - to help you bridge the gaps between aspiration and delivery. Contact Mark on 0131 220 5699 or email mark.diffley@ipsos-mori.com for more information.

Scottish Government to carry out the Scottish Environmental Attitudes and Behaviours Survey
Ipsos MORI has been commissioned by the Scottish Government to carry out the Scottish Environmental Attitudes and Behaviours Survey (SEABS) for 2008. The survey aims to provide robust and reliable data about people’s attitudes and actions towards the environment. The Scottish Government will use this data to inform the development and delivery of a number of environment policy areas, including climate change, sustainable development and wellbeing. The survey will also provide an insight into the various motivations and barriers to changing environmental behaviours and provide baseline data against which the effects of future government initiatives can be assessed.

Fieldwork will take place between June and September 2008, with over 3,000 interviews being conducted across Scotland.
