Our annual survey of the British general public on behalf of the Nuclear Industry Association has shows support for replacement nuclear newbuild is substantially unchanged at 43% and opposition is stable at 19%. This is against a background of no significant change in favourable or unfavourable opinion of the nuclear industry. Furthermore 67% agree that Britain needs a mix of energy sources to ensure a reliable supply of electricity, including nuclear power and renewable energy sources, while only 8% disagree.

However, our surveys since 2007 show that familiarity with the nuclear industry has fallen for the second year running – just 17% now feel they know at least a fair amount about the nuclear energy industry, down 10 points from 2007.

As in previous years, the figures show large differences between the views of men and those of women.
